Where are all the women? – InnovateHer forging a future for girls in tech

At the UNI World Congress in Liverpool, two female technology crusaders called for more initiatives to get women and girls involved in technology.

Joanne Morfee, Co-Founder of InnovateHer and Director at Liverpool Girl Geeks – an organisation aiming to tackle the gender imbalance within the digital and tech sector through education and campaigning – and Jess Ingrey, an InnovateHer alumni, are firm believers that having girls in tech needs to be redefined as vital for our future.

Faced with the fact that by 2040, it is estimated that only 1% of the tech sector will be female if there are no interventions, Morfee gave an illuminating presentation on the near nonexistence of female involvement in technology and how we must act to improve this gender imbalance.

A Liverpool Girl Geeks project, InnovateHer works with young women aged 11-17 and uses schools based programmes and industry role models to reverse gender inequality, improve digital skills and invest in the future of our young people.
