Human Rights Watch’s report “‘I Was Hit So Many Times I Can’t Count’: Abuse of Child Athletes in Japan” highlights the issue of physical, sexual and verbal abuse suffered by child athletes in Japan. The report, done in partnership with World Players, documents Japan’s history of corporal punishment in sport, and finds child abuse in sports throughout Japanese schools, federations, and elite sports. The report includes the experiences of more than 800 former child athletes, including Olympians and Paralympians, and makes several key recommendations to prevent and address further abuse.
