Google Korea workers form a union

Google Korea workers have formed a union this week with the Korea Finance & Service Workers Union (KFSWU). The union held its first general meeting on 11 April, where it elected its leadership. Tech workers’ response to massive layoffs: strike, organize, unionize

Tech workers are responding to widespread layoffs and inadequate working conditions with strikes, protests, and unionizing efforts across the globe. In Austin, Texas, a group of workers made history last week by becoming the first Alphabet subcontracted employees to go on strike. The YouTube Music strikers, who are staffed by Cognizant, recently voted to unionize, and according to Alphabet Workers Union “are paid as little as $19 dollars an hour.”  

Video game workers crushed by excessive hours, low pay, reveals global survey

A new survey of video game workers across 29 countries by UNI Global Union confirms that low pay (66%), excessive work hours (43%), inadequate benefits (43%), and workplace discrimination and/or sexual harassment (35%), among other work-related issues, are the driving forces behind employee dissatisfaction and their desire to form a union in the workplace.

Raven quality assurance workers go union

Quality Assurance workers at Activision’s Raven Software video game studio won their union election and will be represented by the Communications Workers of America. An overwhelming 86% of the votes were in support of the union. The workers, known as Game Workers Alliance (CWA), are the first group to win union representation at Activision Blizzard. 

First collective agreement in the Croatian video games industry

The Croatian union Novi Sindikat and studio Gamechuck signed this week the first collective agreement in the history of the video games industry in Croatia, with reductions in working hours, more days off and a 10 percent profit share for Gamechuck workers.
